Statement from SAFE Communities Coalition on the Release of the “Make America Healthy Again” Report
May 22, 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fueling Misinformation Isn’t a Health Strategy, says Northe Saunders, Executive Director of SAFE Communities Coalition
“Today’s report from the “Make America Healthy Again” Commission begins with a truth: the health of American children is in crisis. We agree that our healthcare system must do more to prevent chronic disease and support long-term health. But let’s be clear—vaccines are not the problem. They are the gold standard for protecting the health of all Americans.
The MAHA report affirms that ‘vaccines benefit children by protecting them from infectious diseases.’ We agree with this fundamental truth—but strongly oppose the report’s subsequent suggestions that call vaccine safety into question and propose unnecessary new studies unsupported by evidence.
While the Executive Order rightly emphasizes the need for scientific rigor and integrity to improve child health, the MAHA report veers off course by casting doubt on the safety of routine childhood vaccines. It recommends changes—like removing liability protections for manufacturers and requiring placebo-controlled trials for routine vaccines—that ignore the realities of how vaccines are tested, approved, and monitored. The report’s findings reflect deep skepticism toward science, the CDC, and the FDA, and they elevate fringe perspectives into official government policy.
If we follow the logic of this report, we won’t be making America healthy again—we’ll be fueling more vaccine hesitancy, losing access to essential immunizations, and opening the door to entirely preventable outbreaks of disease. That’s not a healthier future for our kids—it’s a dangerous, deeply ironic step backward. SAFE Communities Coalition stands with parents, providers, and communities who deserve a healthy future based on real science, not political theater.”
